Character Information

Name: Ginny Weasley. According to rumour there's a longer version of her first name, but if you're wise you'll never refer to her by that particular name.
Gender: Female
Age: 20
D.O.B.: 11 August 1981
Hogwarts House: Gryffindor
Years at Hogwarts: 1992-99
Blood Status: Pureblood
PB: Karoline Herfurth
Suggested Journal Name: Ginners

Appearance: Weasleys tend to come in two varieties – short and stocky, or tall and long. Ginny is not tall. She stands about 5’4, and she’s still got some muscles on her from Quidditch and the DA. She puts on weight easily, and could very easily get chubby if she isn't careful. Normally she’s active enough that it’s not a problem, but she can't quite talk herself into caring enough to diet and obsess and count calories and all, the way a lot of girls her age would do. She doesn't plan to slow down on her active life, though, so usually it all blances out and keeps her slim.

She’s got the orange-red hair of a Weasley, light brown eyes, a rather round face, skin full of freckles. She always figured she was more on the ‘cute’ side instead of ‘beautiful’, but she’s rather fond of herself either way. She tends towards the casual end of fashion. She likes tying her hair back and forgetting about it, and favours jeans and t-shirts and simple robes - dark colours, to better hide spills and stains. There are times when her female side comes out - she used to complain about balls at school, but secretly she rather enjoyed the gowns and make-up. As long as it's only once in a while, she kind of likes dolling herself up and being beautiful.

History: She was the youngest of a houseful of children, but Ginny got off lucky – she was the only girl. She never felt the urge to constantly compare herself to older brothers. She's never been judged on quite the same standards, thanks to her gender. She was the last kid her parents popped out, and she was rather indulgently treated by the boys in the family, along with her loving parents. Ginny was raised without much pain or difficulty, and she knew exactly who she was before she ever went off to school.

Well, that's not necessarily true. She did have a few issues once she was out in the world, things that growing up surrounded by family couldn't have prepared her for. Like Harry. Pretty bloody Harry Potter with his brilliant scar and his glasses and his politeness. Ginny was sort of bowled over by him, and it took a while for that to fade. She also figured out once she got to Hogwarts that she was actually poor, from a poor family, and that was apparently a bad thing. It wasn't something she had noticed before. Luckily she was centered enough not to care about snide rich girls and their giggles, or the endless exhausting talk in her own dorm about Witch Weekly and what colour shoes go with what handbag. She waved all that away, and was charming and fun enough that she wasn't cast out for it. Most people got on with Ginny.

There are still large holes in her memory from her second year at Hogwarts, times when someone else was piloting the ship. What she remembers of Tom Riddle and the diary is jumbled, and more confused every year that passes. She knows she did some dark things, can even remember doing some of them. But she feels disconnected from the whole thing. Her strongest – and worst – memory from that time is being rescued by Harry. Harry, with the basilisk wound, dying because she got her stupid self brainwashed. Sometimes, especially in sleep, she hears the soft whispers of a strange, charming voice. But her second year only served to make her a stronger person. More resolved to stay informed, to battle instead of succumbing.

As she grew older she lost the childish haze of "love" that made Harry so infallible in her eyes, and instead of writing him horrible poetry she started actually talking back to him. She was honest and up front, especially when he was being a self-pitying git. Somehow that made him fancy her, and for a while she managed to get her hands on him. It was nice, too. He was the rare person who became more a hero the more she got to know him. Still, he had that martyr act going strong, and he finally broke up with her over some ridiculous rubbish about Voldemort and the war.

His loss, she told herself rather vehemently. She wouldn't be weakened by it, anyway. She had a war to fight. And her sixth year she did fight it, without her brother and Harry and Hermione. With only Neville to stand by her as they got the DA going, ducked the Death Eaters roaming the halls, withstood punishment and scorn. She was there for the last of it, the last battle. She stood her ground, even after Harry's 'death'.

Ginny had never been very set on what she wanted to do with her life. She thought about playing Quidditch, maybe, but after the war the game seemed more insubstantial than ever. During the hols after the war, before she went back to Hogwarts for her seventh year, it wasn't the fighting that stuck in her mind the most. It was the helping. Every time one of the DA came to the Room of Requirement with fresh wounds. Every time Pomfrey needed help in the hospital ward. Ginny took after her mum in that she was a complete mother bear when there was a cup in trouble, and it became clear that as strong as she considered herself, she was more satisfied by healing than by fighting. So after Hogwarts she decided to join the training program at St. Mungo's.

Personality: Ginny is brave, intelligent, blunt. She says what she thinks, and if someone is wrong she’ll call them on it, no matter who it is. She is motivated, loyal to the end, and she will always fight if there’s a battle around her. She’s got a wicked Weasley sense of humour. She can fight like a devil when someone she loves is threatened. She would do anything for her family and friends.

But that Weasley sense of humour can be biting and harsh, and she doesn’t always know where the line is - a consequence of having been raised by Fred and George as much as Molly and Arthur. That bravery of hers has holes in it – she fears being controlled the way she was when she was starting at Hogwarts. She doesn’t trust people in positions of power, inclined to not give them a chance after years of watching Harry getting battered whenever his opinions didn't fit with official Ministry policy. Her intelligence has a core of ADHD to it – she snaps from one subject to the next, leaving a thousand projects half-finished while she rushes off to something new. Her tendency to fight, to prove herself as more than the girl in a family of boys, or the youngest in a group of fighters, makes her defensive, reckless. She fights especially when she doesn’t have to, which gets her into trouble more often than not. She has no idea how to leave well enough alone.

Though Ginny is very much a tomboy, even growing into her adult years, she does have a fondness for certain ridiculously girly things. She adores a soak in a bubble bath, she’s embarrassingly fond of Celestina Warbuck and the rest of that flowery music her mum listened to all the time while she was growing up. She’s a wretched cook, a terrible housekeeper, and can be a bit of a slob. But she is going to be a bloody good doctor, and she figures that’s the most important thing.

Ginny is a very outgoing, fun, funny person. Like the twins that she takes after so much, she goes too far a lot of the time, but she’s basically optimistic and lighthearted. She has her days of brooding about the past, or growling about the state of the world. But she’s very much able to maintain good cheer despite it all. She is stronger for her past, not weaker for it. And her home was always enough to cheer her even through the worst days.

Occupation: Currently training to be a healer.

Samples

First Personal Sample: Right, I am so annoyed right now that I'm seriously thinking about hexing myself into a stupor so I can get through the rest of this training program without actually realising what's going on. I don't mind the learning bits, but bloody hell. The other trainees treat it like a social gathering straight out of Witch Weekly's gossip columns. If I have to hear one more whisper about who's shagging who when I'm supposed to be concentrating on something that could save a life, I might just devote my entire course of study to developing a clinical spell to obliterate every hormone from a person's body.

Okay, I might be overreacting. I'm just wondering exactly when it is the people around me are going to grow up. I dunno, maybe after the war and everything I keep feeling like the world should be more solemn than it is.

On a lighter note. Weasleys! I expect us all to be gathering one of these weekends, when I've got a spare hour to devote to dinner. It's been too long since I let my brothers spoil me rotten. Between missing my brothers and Potter avoiding me because he's still sure he broke my heart and I'll resent him forever, I'm getting downright lonely.

Third Person Sample: It wasn't until all the words on the page were coming to life, dancing a jig and singing some tuneless song that sounded like Weasley is our King, that Ginny finally realized she might be a bit too tired to finish the chapter.

Bloody boring book. That was the only trouble with training: all the bloody research. Medical research meant digging out old dusty rubbish written a thousand years ago, and honestly. As formal and poncy as official texts were in modern days, it was a hundred times worse fifty years ago. Rigid and formal and full of 'thees' and 'thous' until she had to read a page ten times to follow the train of thought. How she was expected to take it seriously, much less build an entire career on these self-important, overinflated potions texts, was beyond her.

With a sigh Ginny shut the book and sat back, driving the heels of her hands into her eyes. Sleep was a nuisance. There weren't enough hours in a day as it was. Maybe once she was done with training she would look into finding a cure for sleep.

She pushed to her feet, moving on heavy legs to the door. With a wave of her wand and a mutter she got the lights in the kitchen turned out. Between training and study and looking for a part-time job so she could find her own flat, she was bloody exhausted.

Misc.

How did you find out about us? playersresource. I think. I was browsing comms. :-)

Anything else you want to add? I stumbled across the journal of your previous Ginny - now, of course, after I've written the whole app. So I know she wasn't originally a healer. If you would rather I stick with the original plans she had, I'll be happy to rewrite that part of her past.

Thank you for sending your application for Ginny Weasley! I'm really excited by it. As you seem to be offline, I thought I'd leave you a message here regarding your application.

You certainly don't have to stick to any previous backstory for Ginny set out for her by the old Ginny and apart from her family, Harry, Ron and Luna - she won't be expected to pick up dynamics and relationships she had with currently cast characters that she had before. So no worries on that front.

The other thing I wanted to mention was in regards to your played-by. Do you have a second choice you'd be comfortable with using, or are you dead-set on Karoline? She isn't outright banned - but I'd prefer if you used someone else, perhaps. You may ping me on niyki and as soon as I hear back from you, I'll be ready to process your application!
